asfastasican's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-

When I was a young girl
I wanted to be a princess,
a poet, a doctor, a dancer,
an interstellar cosmonaut.

Everything was open,
All was possible.

Dreams were not measured by my checkbook,
but by the stars in my eyes and passion in my heart.

What happened to love?
What happened to acceptance?

When did the merit of my character begin to depend on the apps on my Iphone
or the clothes on my back?

Gotta be the newest, the shiniest, the best,
Gotta be the strongest, the fastest, the most efficient.
You better have a black check mark swoosh on your shoe
or they'll kick you out of the club.

I reject this.

When I grow up
I want to be a princess,
a poet, a doctor, a dancer--
an interstellar cosmonaut.

Everything IS open,
All IS possible.

My dreams will not be measured by my checkbook,
but by the stars in my eyes and passion in my heart.
